MSE specializations
Preparation of our students for success after graduation is at the heart of the specializations concept. Given the broad nature of materials science and engineering, students are given the opportunity to pursue in-depth study in one of six fields in MSE: Biomaterials, Ceramic Materials, Electronic Materials, Materials Manufacturing, Metallurgy, and Polymeric Materials.
Timeline and procedures
Following the common core of courses taken during the first three years in the program, our students select a specialization for their final year. The Specializations Options sheet provides a listing of the specific courses needed to fulfill each MSE specialization.

Declaring a specialization
Specialization Application forms are due before the start of the last quarter of the Junior year (i.e., typically by the end of Winter quarter of Junior year).

Please read through the Specialization Application, complete the form, and obtain the required faculty advisor signature. The student should then schedule an appointment with the MSE Undergraduate Advisor to review the application. Students may e-mail the MSE Undergraduate Advisor, phone 292-3145, or stop by 477 Watts Hall to set up this appointment.
