About CSMM

Student openings

The success of CSMM research is closely linked to the students working in the Center's labs. CSMM is proud to support the educational goals of its graduate students by means of funded Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) positions.

View any all available GRA positions with Dr. Sumption on the MSE department's Funded Research Openings page.

Research at CSMM focuses on the materials science and materials physics of superconductivity and magnetism. This includes structure-properties studies, as well as investigation of phase formation, reaction, diffusion, vortex matter and pinning. Low temperature electrical and magnetic properties are studied, as well as the micro and nanostructure of superconducting and magnetic materials.

CSMM has been involved in the study of superconducting materials since 1996 within OSU's Materials Science Department. We have focussed mainly on superconducting materials in "conductor" form. Materials under study have included the low temperature superconductors (NbTi, Nb3Sn, and Nb3Al), High Temperature superconducting materials (YBCO, Bi-2212, and Bi-2223). More recently intermediate Tc materials, e.g. MgB2 and the new oxi-pnictides, have come under study. The laboratory has a multi-disciplinary approach, with a materials science foundation.
